Description
Cartoon illustration of a group of soldiers attempting to repair a house, due to become headquarters, and keep it standing by tying it with rope to trees and propping it up at the base with logs. Craters from exploded shells surround the property. This work was reproduced in the magazine "Aussie". "Aussie" was first produced in early 1918, edited by Phillip L. Harris in France, and was extremely popular with the soldiers. It was written, edited, illustrated and published entirely by the AIF in the field. By the end of the First World War it was one of the largest trench papers with a circulation of approximately 90 000 copies.
