AGH Skin Ward
"Is a remarkably good example of deficiency diseases. In the lower right hand corner is a typical case of pellagra. On the lower left corner is an illustration of beri-beri[sic] oedema. Other shown are various types of tinea and tropical ulcers. There is a complete absence of any wood. This was stripped for the cook house. Several towels have been repaired from threads stripped from I.P. tents. The hammer and the blow-lamp illustrated the bug hunt." Description of work provided by the donor, Dr. B. L. W. Clarke, 23rd June, 1966. Depicts the Australian General Hospital Skin Ward at Changi in 1943. The servicemen are rife with ulcers and open wounds, but one soldier in lower left sits with one foot in a bath and a crutch leaning on his knee, looking at the viewing smiling with rosy red cheeks.
