Studio portrait of 2680 Private (Pte) William Joseph Humphreys. A railway employee from Northam, Western Australia, he embarked from Fremantle with the 28th Battalion aboard HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 2 November 1915. Pte Humphreys transferred to the 51st Battalion while in France in March 1916 before transferring to the 13th Field Ambulance in September. In November 1916 he was treated for influenza and pleurisy and was transferred to hospital in England. Pte Humphreys died from pneumonia while at Tidworth military hospital on 23 January 1917. He was 47 years old.
