Mobile Printers
Depicts the 1 Australian Army Mobile Printing Unit which was formed in 1942 to operate with Headquarters 1st Australian Army. Its function, in accordance with Field Service Regulations, to print orders and any administrative printing required by Army Headquarters and, in urgent cases, standard Army forms. The Plant depicted is, on the left, 3-ton 4x4 Ford stores truck equipped with a Platen printing machine, hand lever guillotine, wire stitching machine and a forge cowl. Beside it is a trailer with a Denny Folio printing machine and at the front is VX141527 Private W McLennan, bookbinder, operates a wire stitching machine (he also poised for the back view figure in foreground). A relic of pre war days (Caseys Welding Works), a forge cowl can be seen on the right of the trailer, with VX109789 Private R C Steele, machinist 'knocking up paper' nearby. The centre soldier in right foreground on the same work is VX144711 Private J Kettle.
