Dutch light cruiser 'Tromp' being refitted at Garden Island, Sydney
Description
The Dutch light cruiser 'Tromp' was at the cruiser wharf at Garden Island for refitting around October or November, 1943, when this painting was made. As with the United States ships yellow zinc chromate paint was used in preference to red lead as an undercoating when painting the steel plating and this has given the unusual pattern of colour on the smoke stack. In the foreground are gun shields removed from one of the RAN ships.
