Sapper Raymond Ryan
Description
Depicts a portrait of Sapper Raymond Francis Ryan, MM, was a national serviceman posted to the 1st Field Squadron, Royal Australian Engineers, serving in South vietnam. Attached to an infantry company during an operation in which elements of the company entered a minefield and sustained casualities. Ryan moved forward and worked singled-handed for four hours in darkness, prodding through minefield with a bayonet to reach the casualities and clear a path for their evacuation. Having completed this task Ryan was in the act of withdrawing when he detonated a mine and was severely wounded.
