Collaborators in the lions' cage at Antwerp
Description
A guard stands at the entrance to the cage in which two women are seated. On 8 September 1944, Antwerp was liberated from German occupation by British troops. The lions cage in the zoological gardens was used to house 20 Female Belgian collaborators who were accused of aiding the German in the lions' cage at Antwerp. In another cage there were 65 Belgian males who were accused of aiding the Gestapo during the German occupation of Antwerp. Fort Breednock was also used to house Belgian collaborators in Antwerp at the end of the war.
