Description

Dargie noted, "A soldier looks at a comrade's grave. Actually, this was one of three graves of prisoners who had been bayoneted by the Japanese. The graves were discovered by the patrol with which the artist was working. Around the graves of the murdered men their equipment was scattered and from one of the graves, which was very shallow, protruded a length of cord which had been used to bind the wrists of the dead men. With the knots still in it, this was taken back to Headquarters by Lieutenant Freeman, of Intelligence".
