HMAS 'Norman' oiling from HMS 'Olna'
Description
600 miles east of Japan was the approximate area for refuelling and re-storing of the British Pacific Fleet in it's attack on Japan. Re-fuelling was done while ships cruised at 8 knots and about 30 yards apart. The tanker is the "San Arnardo". Tankers show signs of 'sea-time' - the time spent at sea without seeing land - 56 days - was recorded for the whole war.
