Warrant Officer Alan Philp, 77 Squadron, Korea
Description
No. 77 Squadron of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) had been on occupation duties in Japan since 1946 when it was called into action on the Korean peninsula. It was the only combat squadron committed by the RAAF to the Korean War, and it suffered heavy losses. Pilot Alan Philp, drawn in his flying uniform and goggles, led several successful attacks on North Korea, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the US Air Medal.
