Zero trouble over Lae (Pilot Officer Harold Burn)
Description
Depicts Pilot Officer Harold Burn (service number 401025) operating the twin .303 Browning machine gun, in first gunner position on an aircraft. The first gunner also operates the wireless, transmitting and receiving. In an emergency he can fly the aircraft from that position, but can only make a belly landing because he has no control over the landing gear. The pilot pictured is Harold J Burn, 22 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force, Boston aircraft. He wears a flying helmet with throat microphone, which allows his mouth and nose free for oxygen.
