RAAF Repair and Salvage unit
Description
This depicts the workshop and temporary shelter at the Vivigani airfield, Goodenough Island, New Guinea. The hangar was used by 26 Repair and Salvage Unit, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), and the large covering structure was erected in ten days. These units carry out repairs on crashed and damaged aircraft. To the left a Curtiss p-40, Kittyhawk fighter, and to the right a DAP Beaufort bomber, are shown in various states of repair. Alan Moore, was appointed an official war artist in November 1943. He served in New Guinea, Middle East and Europe and returned to Australia 1945.
