Unloading LSTs at night, Balikpapan
Description
This work depicts the unloading of LSTs (Landing ships, tank) at night in Balikpapan, Indonesia. LST is a military acronym for naval vessels that were created during the Second World War. LSTs were designed to carry a large number of vehicles, cargo and landing troops and deliver them directly onto beaches and shores. LSTs were first used in combat during the Second World War in June 1943 in the Solomon Islands up until the end of hostilities in August 1945, when Japan accepted the Allied demand for unconditional surrender.
