Interior with bunks, Stalag Luft III, Germany
Description
Unidentified prisoners of war in a bunk room at Stalag Luft III, Sagan, Poland. This is one of three works by Taylor held by the Memorial of this subject. Verso of ART28567 seems to have been his initial study - focusing on light from the window falling on the wall above the bunk beds. This study includes figures, and is a prelude to 'POW Camp, Germany' ( ART28573). Taylor selects slightly different views of the bunk house for each consecutive work, using violet ink in the final work to create a striking image of the illuminated room.
