The last barrier (Battle of Pieters Hill and Relief of Ladysmith)
Description
South Africa 1899-1901. A panoramic view of the area around with events leading to the Relief occurring - various British brigades (Lyttleton's and Norcott's) and artillery engaging Boer forces, and defeated Boers withdrawing from their defensive positions on Pieters Hill. A hot air observation balloon is seen flying over town of Ladysmith. In the middle distance, General Buller and his Staff observe the battle from beside the railway line, while in the distance mounted troops of Dundonald's Scouts gallop ahead to complete the relief of Ladysmith. This is one of a series from 'Bacon's South African Battle Pictures'.
