Major General Ivan Dougherty
Description
Depicts a portrait of NX148 Major General Ivan N Dougherty, CBE, DSO, ED, after a period with the 2/2nd Infantry Battalion he was appointed to command the 2/4th Battalion, which he led in Libya, Greece and Crete in 1941, gaining the DSO for his work at Tobruk and Derna. In 1942 he commanded the 23rd Brigade in the Northern Territory, and between 1942 and 1945 the 21st Brigade against the Japanese in New Guinea and Borneo. He was awarded a Bar to the DSO for his services in New Guinea and appointed CBE for leadership in the Borneo operations.
