Sunt lacrymae rerum ( They are tears of the world)
Description
Two soldiers sit in a devastated village and ask a women with her arms around a young girl in tears: 'Why does she cry?' They receive the reply: 'She came back to find her house'. Innocent women and children were the victims of German aerial bombings. This work was published in 'L'Opinion', 11 september 1915, p.188-189 (42A). There is a drawing of this subject in a private collection (42B). It was included in 'De la Marne au Rhin I', 41 (42E).
