Castle of Europe Dardanelles
Description
A sketch of an ancient castle fortress on the foreshore at the Dardanelles. It is possibly the Castle of Europe, one of the two castles that guarded the entrance to the Dardanelles. This drawing is one of 26 illustrations by Mrs Marianne Young (also known as Marianne Postans) prepared for her book 'Our Camp in Turkey, and the way to it', published by Richard Bentley, London 1854. Due to the outbreak of the Crimean War they were not included in the original publication.
