Anchorage of the fleet, 'Carodoc' steaming in
Description
A mixture of steam and sailing ship anchored in calm water; buildings and township in the distance. Beicos Bay (or Beykoz) is about ten miles from Constantinople and Bourgus is a Bulgarian port town. This drawing is one of 26 illustrations by Mrs Marianne Young (also known as Marianne Postans) prepared for her book 'Our Camp in Turkey, and the way to it', published by Richard Bentley, London 1854. Due to the outbreak of the Crimean War they were not included in the original publication.
