Syra
Description
A view across the water to a small town on the shores of the island of Syra (also known as Siros) in the Aegean sea. Civilian sailing vessels are shown. This drawing is one of 26 illustrations by Mrs Marianne Young (also known as Marianne Postans) prepared for her book 'Our Camp in Turkey, and the way to it', published by Richard Bentley, London 1854. Due to the outbreak of the Crimean War they were not included in the original publication.
