Negro Point in the Aegean, April 9th
Description
A view of a rocky headland jutting our into the Aegean. The island of Negroponte (now called Euboea) is a long mountainous ridge which runs parallel to the peninsula of Attica, and is separated from the Greek mainland by a long and winding channel. This drawing is one of 26 illustrations by Mrs Marianne Young (also known as Marianne Postans) prepared for her book 'Our Camp in Turkey, and the way to it', published by Richard Bentley, London 1854. Due to the outbreak of the Crimean War they were not included in the original publication.
