Manuel, Malta for quarantine
Description
A view showing naval fortifications in Malta, civilian craft and a steamer in the foreground. Fort Manuel was built in the 18th century and later used as a quarantine station. This drawing is one of 26 illustrations by Mrs Marianne Young (also known as Marianne Postans) prepared for her book 'Our Camp in Turkey, and the way to it', published by Richard Bentley, London 1854. Due to the outbreak of the Crimean War they were not included in the original publication.
