The advance on Jerusalem - Wadi Ali
Description
In 1917 McBey was appointed by the British War Office to be an official artist in Egypt. He accompanied the Camel Corps and the troops throughout the desert campaign witnessing the attack on Jelil and the liberation of Jerusalem and Damascus. This etching, from an edition of 70, shows a column of heavy artillery, reinforcements and supplies entering the gorge of Wadi Ali in the Judean Plateau near Amwas. It is dated in the plate 30 November 1917 but was probably not printed until 1920.
