Study for The Sphinx
Description
Depicts a sketch of the Sphinx, with the remains of old trenches in foreground. The Sphinx was one of the most distinctive landmarks at Gallipoli and faced towards the sea. It was known to the troops during the First World War by various other names including the Knife Edge and the Cathedral before it was entered on a map as the Sphinx. It is a view of the Sphinx 75 years after the landing.
