Description

Fisherman's Hut, North Beach. In the distance is Ari Burnu Point beyond which Anzac's landed. Fisherman's Hut was used as a range finder for artillery and therefore survived throughout the campaign. The Sphinx is identifiable in the centre of the work. This painting was done on 26 April 1990 and is the home still of two fisherman who brought Clifton tea, so pleased were they to be immortalized. The poppies depicted in the foreground grow all over the lower stretches of the Peninsula. Pugh was appointed official war artist for the 75th Anniversary of the Gallipoli landing at Anzac Cove in 1990.
