Containership and skycrane
Description
A United States film on the development of a revolutionary system for the delivery of off-shore cargo. This system jointly developed by American Export Isbrantsen Lines and the Sikorsky Aircraft Division is designed for use wherever port and docking facilities are inadequate, non-existent or overcrowded. The system centres around the Sikorsky S-65 Skycrane helicopter and the use of containerised cargo. This film documents a test conducted on 27 January 1967 in which 462,000lbs of cargo was off loaded incontinuous shuttle flights in five and half hours. The narrator notes the obvious military advantages of this system saying that it would be very suited for use in Vietnam.
