Calling Australia
Japanese propaganda film - POW presentation - an Australian message. Part 1: Day by day. Every commodity is provided for men, women and children in captivity - well-balanced meals, clean clothes, fresh water. Officers receive special priviledges and are kept informed of the progress of the war through newspapers and radio broadcasts. In the women's camp the children play while the women relax with their knitting and sewing. Part 2: Lest we forget. Playing sport increases the physical strength of the prisoners. Those who are not so healthy are well cared for in hospital by specially trained doctors. Patients convalescing in cool mountain retreats receive visitors and write letters home. Special commemorative ceremonies are held for the allied war dead. Part 3: Happy moments. On payday the men gather in the camp canteen, visit the barber or shop for souvenirs in the local village. They are encouraged to follow recreational pursuits such as gardening or painting and drawing, and to entertain fellow prisoners with lavish concert performances.
