USAF operations and activities in South East Asia 1966. Airlift of the 315th Air Division by C-130 Hercules for the commencement of Operation Birmingham. C-141 and C-133 heavy transport aircraft of the 61 Military Airlift Wing in Operation Blue Light. This operation transported Army troops from Hawaii and was the largest strategic airlft into a combat zone ever conducted. Army Special Forces being supplied by C-123. The supplies include live cattle. C-123s in low level air drops. Airfield construction at Cam Rahn Bay. Air police guarding airbases and conducting security checks. Convair F-102 Delt Dagger interceptors and their mission to defend air bases against enemy air attack. Lockheed EC-121 aircraft provide early warning and fighter direction. Rescue of downed airmen both in the jungle by helicopter and at sea by Albatross flying boat. A crippled F-4C Phantom makes a successful belly landing at Bien Hoa airbase. C-141 bring in high priority supplies and for the return jorney are converted to Aero Medevac standard. USAF personnel volunteer in giving medical aid to civilians and food and toys to orphans. Evacuation of flooded villages in Thailand Sept 1966. F-105 Thunderchief fighter bombers on refuel mid-air on route to bomb petroleum installations near Hanoi. F-4C Phantoms, A-1E Skyraiders and AC-47 Dragonship provide close air support for US ground troops. The work of Forward Air Controllers (FAC) in finding and marking targets for F-100 Super Sabre fighter bombers. President L.B. Johnson and General Westmoreland inspect forces at Cam Rahn Bay.
