Description

Studio portrait of 5207 Gunner (Gnr) Harold William Boyd, 1st Divisional Ammunition Column, of Alphington Vic. A clerk prior to enlistment Gnr Boyd embarked with the 9th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Ballarat on 9th September 1915. After transferring to the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade, he died aged 21 on 24th July 1917 of wounds received in action, and is buried in the Mendinghem Military Cemetery, Belgium. His only brother Lieutenant (Lt) Thomas Hewett Boyd was also killed in action..
