Studio portrait possibly of 6472 Private (Pte) Charles James Gordon Bruce, 3rd Battalion. A carpenter from Wagga Wagga, New South Wales prior to enlistment, he embarked from Sydney 7 October 1916 aboard HMAT Ceramic for Plymouth, England. Following training in England Pte Bruce joined his unit on the Western Front, France, on 14 March 1917. He was hospitalised on 19 May 1917 as a result of accidental wounding and rejoined his unit on 9 June 1917. Pte Bruce was killed in action near Ypres, Belgium, on 21 September 1917.
