Studio portrait of 5792 Corporal (Cpl) Albert William Davis, 22nd Battalion from Rutherglen, Victoria. A 19 year old coach builder prior to enlisting on 25 April 1916, he embarked for overseas as a Private with the 16th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 2 October 1916 aboard HMAT Nestor. While serving in France, he was promoted to Lance Corporal in May 1917 and to Corporal in May 1918. After being wounded in action, he died from his wounds two days later on 21 May 1918. Cpl Davis is buried in the Vignacourt British Cemetery, France. (SAME IMAGE AS A00593)
