Description
Group portrait of some unidentified members of the crew of HMAS Sydney, shown on the deck while their ship is chasing the collier Buresk near Cocos Island. The shot holes in the forebridge date from the Sydney's successful action against the raider Emden earlier on the same day. A better example of this image is at P11663.002. The man standing at far left of the second row from the front, with legs slightly apart and wearing a dark scarf is very probably 3562 Able Seaman (AB) Walter Ernest Anderson. AB Anderson surived the war and re-enlisted in 1940, served aboard HMAS Bathurst and was discharged in January 1942 (see P11597.001).
