Description
Kanchanaburi, Thailand. c. 1945. Interior of one of the attap huts housing the Dutch medical ward at the Japanese prisoner of war (POW) hospital at Kanchanaburi. The raised sleeping platforms made of split bamboo and the interior construction are typical of this type of hut which was used extensively to accommodate Allied POWs who worked on the Burma-Thailand railway. Each man had one metre of space. Kanchanaburi (Kanburi) is located fifty kilometres north of Nong Pladuk (also known as Non Pladuk), or 364 kilometres south of Thanbyuzayat. (Donor B. Theobald)
