1973. M.V. KRAIT. ORIGINALLY RESTORED IN 1964, DEDICATED AS A WAR MEMORIAL AND USED FOR TRAINING AND RECREATION PURPOSES BY THE ROYAL VOLUNTEER COASTAL PATROL. THE VESSEL IS NOW PART OF THE AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIAL'S COLLECTION. ORIGINALLY KNOWN AS THE KOFUKU MARU, THE CHINESE BUILT TRAWLER WAS COMMANDEERED DURING 1942 AND OPERATED BY THE SERVICES RECONNAISSANCE DEPARTMENT, ALLIED INTELLIGENCE BUREAU, FOR CLANDESTINE OPERATIONS. THE KRAIT WAS FAMOUS FOR ITS ROLE IN OPERATION JAYWICK CONDUCTED BY Z SPECIAL UNIT, A SUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT TO SABOTAGE JAPANESE SHIPPING IN SINGAPORE HARBOUR. (DONOR T. MCLEAN)
