Description
A group of happy Australian ex-prisoners of war at "bicycle" camp soon after they were freed. The camp was a former Dutch military barracks for native troops and so called on account of the large number of bicycles found there when first occupied by the prisoners. Sapper "Happy" Joy (front row right, holding a duck) and Private Gordon Bell (back row right) were with Sparrow Force and captured on Timor. Driver W. Yates (back row left) served in the Middle East before being captured on Java as a member of "Black Force". An unidentified soldier second from front holds an accordion.
