Description
Konkoita, Thailand. c. December 1945. A view of a bend of the River Kwai, taken from the cutting at Konkoita, 263 kilometres north of Nong Pladuk (also known as Non Pladuk), or 151 kilometres south of Thanbyuzayat, where the line laid from the Burma end met the line laid from the Thai end on the Burma-Thailand railway. On the left, Peter J. Hartig, formerly a Dutch prisoner of war who worked on the railway, is questioning Karien women washing in the river about Japanese troops not yet captured. (Donor P. J. Hartog)
