Description

Outdoor group portrait of No 3 Squadron, Royal Flying Corps (RFC). Marked with an X is Canadian Second Lieutenant (2nd Lt) R C Steele and next to him, marked with an O is German Aviator Oberleutnant Gustav Adolf Dittmar of Fliegerabteilung 300 unit. Dittmar's aircraft was shot down on 8 October 1917, practically intact, into AIF Light Horse lines near Beersheeba by a Bristol fighter aircraft flow by 2nd Lt Steele. Dittmar was taken prisoner of war (POW).
