Informal portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) Henry William Bowd, 67th Squadron Australian Flying Corps (AFC), of Inverell NSW. An articled law clerk in civilian life, he Initially enlisted as a Private (Pte) in the 6th Light Horse Regiment and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant (2 Lt) prior to embarkation with the 15th Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Pera on 22nd March 1916. After promotion to Lt, he transferred to the AFC firstly as an observer, and later qualified as a pilot. Lt Bowd was killed during a test flight over Heliopolis, Egypt on 25th October 1917 and is buried in the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery.
