PALESTINE. 1917. DAMAGED AUSTRALIAN FLYING CORPS (AFC) MARTINSYDE G.100 AIRCRAFT, SERIAL NO. 7487, BEING SALVAGED BY AFC AIR MECHANICS. THE PLANE WAS LANDED BY LIEUTENANT A. C. COLE IN 1917-06 BEHIND ENEMY LINES TO PICK UP TWO OTHER STRANDED PILOTS, BUT WAS UNABLE TO TAKE OFF AGAIN DUE TO A WRECKED UNDERCARRIAGE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS ABANDONED UNTIL THE GROUND WAS CAPTURED BY THE ALLIES. (DONOR S. CLEREHAN)
