Description

The Kuo-Min-Tang hall where assemblies are held and administrative problems are solved by town Officials and the Australian New Guinea Administrative Unit (ANGAU) representatives. The hall is in the new Chinatown situated near the Matupi crater. Although razed by allied bombing, the town commenced to reappear soon after occupation by 11 Division. Under the guidance of the Officers from the Australian New Guinea Administrative Unit HQ, 1,500 Chinese and 300 Malay, applied typical Eastern industry to the area and cleared the wreckage to establish a new village. This was complete with commerical, cultural, sporting and educational facilities.
