Formal studio portrait of 2073 Private (Pte) Eric James Austin 'Jimmy' Drummond, 54th Battalion, of Albury, NSW. Pte Drummond enlisted on 26 Match 1915 and embarked from Sydney with the 2nd Battalion (5th Reinforcements) aboard HMAT Hororata A20 only 14 days later. The 5th Reinforcements arrived at Gallipoli on 22 June 1915. He joined the 54th Battalion in early 1916 as part of the doubling of the AIF and was promoted to Corporal in May, and Sergeant in August of the same year. On 5 October 1917 he suffered a gun shot wound to the hip and was hospitalised in England, during which time he was reunited with his older siblings; 414 Sapper John Hugh Drummond, 4 Division Signals (also a veteran of the Gallipoli Campaign); and 22/344 Sister Margaret Rose Drummond, New Zealand Army Nursing Service (NZANS) (see P11251.002). Sergeant Drummond was killed in action on 1 September 1918, aged 22. "Dear wee Jimmy" is written on the verso of the card.
