Description
Letters relating to the First World War service of Major Benjamin Bennett Leane, 48th Infantry Battalion. Included is the transcript of a letter in which Leane details a portion of his journey from Australia to Egypt on the troopship Ascanius. He describes the stop in Colombo as well as a major collision between the Ascanius and the troopship Shropshire. Also included is a letter from the Australian War Memorial to Leane's widow thanking her for her donation of a letter and several photographs.
