Studio portrait of 2497 Private (Pte) Ernest Charles Gillet Nichols, 60th Battalion. Pte Nichols, a brass moulder from Northcote, Victoria, enlisted with the 8th Battalion in June 1915 at the age of 18. He served at Gallipoli with the 8th Battalion, being allocated to the 60th Battalion in 1916. Pte Nichols was attached to the 15th Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery when he was killed by a shell burst on 4 April 1918.
