Studio portrait of 3455 Private (Pte) Harry Turner, 3rd Battalion (later 53rd Battalion). A sawyer from Petersham, New South Wales, Harry Turner enlisted with his younger brother 3462A Pte Arthur Turner, and they embarked with the 11th Reinforcements from Sydney on 2 November 1915 aboard HMAT Euripides (A14) for Egypt. In mid-February 1916 they were both transferred to the 53rd Battalion which relocated to the Western Front, France, in late June 1916. Both brothers were initially reported missing in action and following a Court of Inquiry were deemed to have been killed in action on 19 July 1916 at Fromelles, France. They have no known grave and they are commemorated on the V.C. Corner Australian Cemetery and Memorial, Fromelles, France. Pte Harry Turner was aged 22 years. (See also P11334.001)
