Brumby, Robert William (Corporal, b.1901 - d.1974)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of TX5991 Corporal Robert William Brumby, 7 Pigeon Section. The collection includes one Pigeon Service message to Cpl Robert Brumby from Sergeant Allan Robert Ritchie sent while they were serving in Hobart, Tasmania. The message asks if Cpl Brumby would like a beer at 'Ma Wiseman's' (a hotel in Burnie). The collection also includes one hand-illustrated envelope addressed to Cpl Brumby, and is most likely from Vin Blanden, a sketch artist. The illustration depicts a tired looking pigeon carrying a parcel of butter and one of 'bully', and includes the following caption: 'Sorry. Bird couldn't take off with the bread. Will send over later on truck.' Another illustration included in the collection depicts two pigeons with the caption, 'Would honourable little Aussie pigeon tell Japanese gentleman what she has in that funny little thing on her leg?'
