Description

A Ship's out of hours Emergency Response Team (SHERT) exercise on HMAS Parramatta. Such drills are a regular feature of life on board such ships, even in wartime, as they ensure the ship is protected against disaster at sea. All areas of the ship provide team members and all of the ship's crew see the value of these regular drills and exercises. One of a series of photographs taken aboard HMAS Parramatta by Mal Booth, Head of the Australian War Memorial's Research Centre, as part of the Memorial's Curators in the Field program. This program continues the Memorial's tradition of documenting Australia's experience of war, through observing the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and collecting records, photographs, oral histories and objects for the Memorial's National Collection.
