Leading Seaman Boatswain's Mate (LSBM) John Walter on the Gun Direction Platform (GDP). LSBM John Walter was selected by HMAS Parramatta's Captain, Executive Officer and Warrant Officer to be tracked and photographed on his normal duties for a whole day by an AWM curator and photographer. One of a series of photographs taken aboard HMAS Parramatta by Mal Booth, Head of the Australian War Memorial's Research Centre, as part of the Memorial's Curators in the Field program. This program continues the Memorial's tradition of documenting Australia's experience of war, through observing the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and collecting records, photographs, oral histories and objects for the Memorial's National Collection.
