I'm not Crazy, Afghanistan- preliminary sketch
Depicts a seated, wide-eyed and staring figure. With this work , Myers noted; 'I started [this work] after watching the Int operator in the office continually getting angry with his computer'. This work alludes to the frustrations of technology but also the tensions and anxieties evident in working in the ADF in often difficult circumstances in Afghanistan where individuals sometimes questioned their own sanity. The work is a preliminary sketch for a more detailed, second work of the same name. Campbell Myers has worked as a MultiMedia Technician since 2008 with the Royal Australian Engineers (RAE). In 2012 he was posted with the 1st Intelligence Battalion and deployed to Afghanistan as a replacement for a member who was on relief on 'out of country' leave. He was employed with the PSYOPS Detachment Uruzgan 7 and 8 which were part of the Combined Military Team in Uruzgan, Afghanistan. Myers was deployed twice to Afghanistan; initially in August -September 2012 and subsequently from March-April 2013. While in Afghanistan, Myers drew and sketched the events and day-to-day activities he participated in and witnessed while at the Australian military base at Tarin Kowt in the Uruzgan province.
