Collection relating to the Second World War service of 420648 Flying Officer Arthur Richard Dyer, 467 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, Australia and France, 1946.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Collection consists of two letters relating to the death of Flying Officer Dyer. The first letter, dated 15 February 1946, was written by the Department of Air to Flying Officer Dyer’s father, Walter Dyer. The letter reports on the burial places of Flying Officer Dyer and his crewmates. The second letter, dated 20 July 1946, was written by the deputy mayor of L’Isle-Adam, France, Miss Delaveaux, to Flying Officer Dyer’s parents, Walter and Margaret Dyer. In her letter, the deputy mayor gives information regarding the circumstances of their son’s death, including the intended target of the bombing raid and the destruction of the town. She then writes of the burial place of Flying Officer Dyer and his crew, and promises to visit their graves often.
