Description
The original grave marker of 16528 Sapper Sydney Hill Carpenter, 2nd Australian Company Engineers, buried in Ebblinghem Military Cemetery, Nord, France. A motor body builder prior to his enlistment, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Orsova (A62) on 2 December 1916. He was wounded in the leg by a shell blast near his billet in the French village of Borre and died several days later on 21 April 1918, aged 23.
